The area is excellent for trekking and river rafting, actually this are basically white water rafting trip but due to the nature the water is not white, its brown and dark green. Actually its as you like, there local rafting crew is from the Umphang area means they have quite some experience with it. At certain points rafting stops and the rubber rafts gets folded, put onto the pickup truck and trekking starts, the pickup waits at another location where whitewater rafting adventures continues, perfect water rafting trips at a great Thailand river rafting location.

The rubber rafts are driven through the stream and your rafting vacations will go on with great panoramas through the mountain river gorges, passing a waterfall here and there. In the mountainous border area between Myanmar-Thailand are several huge reservoirs, this man made lakes are made to generate electricity at the outflow and at the same time plenty of local people are living on bamboo rafts at the lake and do extensive fishing.

At other places such as Soppong in northern Thailand bamboo rafts are use to carry the tourist through the huge cave labyrinth. Or just doing a bamboo raft ride at Chiang on the river downstream from the elephant camp north of Chiang Mai. There are plenty of possibilities for great water rafting.

Waterfalls are plenty in western and northern Thailand one of them is pictured at right, that's the biggest waterfall in Thailand and probably in Asia at all, it's the Thee Lor Sue Waterfall at Umphang. The dark green waters of the River Kwai (remember the Movie" Bridge over River Kwai) are also just made for a great rafting trip, in this case in Kanchanaburi Province about 3 hours drive west of Bangkok.

The western part of Thailand towards the border to Myanmar has a very mountainous profile with steep slopes, valleys, and plenty of tropical jungle.
